You can put it on any side of the screen you like. GoodNotes doesn’t need any themes, it looks great the way it is. It is beautiful, and the themes just make it better. Notability’s extremely minimalist design makes the user interface look amazing. It seems that was the minor change they needed to make the app look better. With the tabs above the toolbars, it doesn’t look as cluttered as it did before GoodNotes 6. We never thought we would appreciate the user interface in GoodNotes. How are such big developers failing to add this to the app? User interface We look forward to saving our digital notebooks to the app’s libraries in the future. In both GoodNotes and Notability, custom templates have to be single pages, though. That means whatever page template you want to use in the app, you can easily create the exact notebooks you want to work with. No matter the page customisation options, you can import custom page templates into the app’s library. Personally, I always turn off the covers, so I don’t mind that Notability doesn’t have them. Perhaps that is the reason all the colour options are limited to each page template in the app. For covers, it makes sense that the colour options are not centralised. They also have colour options in GoodNotes 6, which is a bit of fun. GoodNotes has covers to make your notebooks look pretty on the homepage. The line-spacing options in GoodNotes 6 are limited to narrow and wide, which is not much to work with. Notability also has elaborate line-spacing options for basic templates. The developers need to find a way to centralise the customisation, like we have in Notability. They need a bit of patience to use on different templates, though. That was before GoodNotes added page and line colours. Notability used to have more page colours for its basic templates. In GoodNotes 6, you can buy some templates from their marketplace. We dislike that the developers have made the gallery so easily accessible. Notability still has a larger collection of page templates because of its gallery. GoodNotes 6 even has custom page sizes now, which is impressive. They also have a lot of options for your notebooks, with a respectable number of page sizes and orientations. Both apps still have the quick notebook option, which is fairly simple to get started with. It’s now confusing, which takes some getting used to. Notability 14 ruined the user experience for creating new notes in the app. That has been the case with almost every productivity app we have tried, so we have reason to believe GoodNotes 6 is not any different. We’re still to test GoodNotes 6 on other platforms, but from our experience, other platforms usually have versions that are inferior to the one on the iPad.
